Johnny Depp

Also known as John Christopher Depp II, the veteran American actor was born in Kentucky, US. Depp gained immense popularity after his portrait of the character named Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean. Depp has not only won the Screen Actors Guild and Golden Globe Award but has also been nominated for Academy Awards for three times. Also known for his love of music, winemaking and as a restaurateur, Depp has been growing grapes for producing wines in wine facilities owned by him. Recently he collaborated with his close friend and director Tim Burton for seven films. The upcoming film Alice in the Wonderland is a part of one of such collaborations.

Jeremy Bentham

Popularly known for advocating utilitarianism and the concept of animal rights, Jeremy was also a social and legal reformer, philosopher and a jurist. He strictly opposed the idea of natural rights and heavily came down upon it stating that such rights are nothing but “nonsense upon stilts”. Known for originating the concept of panopticon and influencing welfarism, Bentham mainly used his position in favour of individual and economic freedom, equal rights for women, freedom of expression, end of slavery and separation of church and state. It is noted that most of his writing were never published even during his lifetime. Some of his works published during his lifetime include Fragment on Government, Short Review of the Declaration, Panopticon, and Defence of Usury etc.

Marilyn Monroe

Marilyn Monroe was born on 1st June 1926 as Norma Jeane Mortenson. She spent a very troubled childhood and lived in several foster homes. Marilyn struggled to free herself, she worked at the Radioplane Munitions Factory when the Army photographer suggested that she apply to the Blue Book modeling agency. She was married at that time to her first husband. She became a successful model and divorced her husband to pursue her career. She landed her first film contract in 1946. She had minor roles at first, later her performances in “All About Eve” and “The Asphalt Jungle” in 1950 earned her critical acclaim. She was one of the most popular actresses of Hollywood. She faced unstable relationships and a rocky career. Her mystic death was highly publicized. It was among the most sensational news of all times. Her alleged affair with John F. Kennedy was not revealed until after her death.
